MOTS-C
MOTS-C
MOTS-C (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is an investigational synthetic 16-amino acid peptide derived from the mitochondrial genome. It is studied primarily as an injectable candidate. It is being researched for its potential roles in regulating metabolic homeostasis, improving insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose and fat metabolism, promoting mitochondrial function, and acting as an exercise mimetic. Additional areas of interest include support for energy production, reduction of age-related metabolic decline, and possible benefits in obesity, diabetes, and physical performance. As of 2026, MOTS-C remains unapproved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for general use and is classified as a research chemical.
